The service in 4 parts
01 · Who it’s for
Products sold on results, visibility, leads or calls, whose customers ask at renewal what they got for the money. Pageviews and bounce rates can’t answer that question.
02 · What we’ve built
- Around 180 event types on an advertising marketplace in the US, covering each step from the position an advertiser paid for to the phone call it produced.Case study 06 →
- Total and unique views stored separately, and bot traffic filtered at three layers: the firewall, known addresses and the user agent. An inflated count costs you the customer’s trust.Case study 05 →
- A conversion rate from revealing a phone number to placing the call. No general-purpose tool would have produced it, because none of them knows that revealing the number is the moment that matters in this business.Case study 06 →
03 · How we work
01 · START FROM THE INVOICEThe events follow what the customer is invoiced for: what they bought, what they received for it and each step that connects the two.
02 · REGULAR PRUNINGAn event that nobody reads still costs a write every time it fires, so we schedule a review of which events are still in use. On the marketplace there was a naming convention but no such review, and some unused events kept being written.

FAQ
Questions about this service
No. Together they map how the business makes money: position, impression, interest, intent and contact, with the sales funnel alongside.
General web analytics measures traffic to the site as a whole. It can’t tell one of your customers what they received, and it can’t show that figure in their account next to their renewal.
Both, kept apart. Totals are the bigger number, and uniques tell a customer how many different people saw them. A unique view is counted per session and page, so a person who searched in two cities is counted twice, since they were looking for two different things.
Anything you sell. A premium listing is sold as better placement, so its position is recorded the moment the listing appears instead of being worked out afterwards.
